A November heatwave in Sydney

This weekend, the city of Sidney has suffered through a heatwave. The temperature reached up to 45,7°C in Mildura, a temperature highly unusual at this time of the year. The lowest temperature recorded was 25,3°C which is the usual high in Sidney in November.

This heatwave caused fire in Australia, mostly bushfires, some still burning but under the control of the firefighters thanks to the southerly wind that cooled the areas.

This heatwave rises a question, is climate change the trigger of this heat and therefor the fires? The Prime Minister Scott Morrison downplayed the link between the two and stubbornly wants to keep Australia as one of the world’s leading fossil fuel exporter. Which rises another question, when will politicians finally take climate change seriously ?
